5 Amp Secondary Current Transformers

These self-powered, solid-core current transformers convert 50–1600 A AC primary current to a proportional 5 A secondary output. Choose a round RL case with flying leads or a square SFT case with terminals and integral mounting feet. Available primary-current ratios depend on the selected Series 2, 5 or 7.

Power Supply:

Self-powered; no external supply

Frequency Range:

50–400 Hz

Rated Primary Current:

Series 2: 50–300 A; Series 5: 50–1200 A; Series 7: 50–1600 A

Case:

Solid-core RL round with flying leads, or SFT square with terminals and integral mounting feet

Output Signal:

0–5 A AC

Accuracy:

ANSI rated, <2.0%

Insulation Class:

0.6 kV BIL; 10 kV full wave

Burden:

Depends on series and ratio; see catalogue VA burden table. Rating factor: 2.0 at 30°C ambient.

Series 2 supports 50–300 A; Series 5 supports 50–1200 A; Series 7 supports 50–1600 A. Both RL and SFT cases are solid-core. Example order number: 5RL501-NK (Series 5, round case, 500:5 ratio).

Series 2 aperture dimensions differ within the catalogue: the specifications list 1.13 in, while the 2RL drawing lists 1.05 in (26.7 mm). The 2SFT drawing lists 1.13 in (28.7 mm). Confirm conductor clearance before ordering Series 2. Series 5 and 7 apertures are 1.56 in (39.6 mm) and 2.50 in (63.5 mm).

Select a transformer with sufficient VA burden for the connected instrument and leads; ratings vary by series and ratio. A conventional 5 A current transformer must not be energized with its secondary open. Use a suitable secondary shorting arrangement when disconnecting the load.
